Moving Through Grief to Possibility, with Sarah Nannen

Sarah Nannen is a keynote speaker, life coach, and the author of a best-selling book Grief Unveiled: A Widow’s Guide to Navigating Your Journey in Life After Loss. Sarah became a military widow and solo mom of four young children in 2014 when an aviation accident claimed her husband’s life. Her journey through grief opened her eyes to a renegade way of approaching life and possibility that now informs her work with women breaking through limitation to live extraordinary lives. Through live events and coaching programs, Sarah guides women to move with clarity toward the life of their new dreams. Her podcast “Grief Unveiled”, released in 2018, offers up weekly conversations dedicated to real talk and the real truth about grief and living and her newest podcast Epic Existence helps women break free from limitations and into extraordinary possibility. Sarah lives in central Illinois with her fiancé Brad and their four children.

What you will learn in this episode:

  • How losing her military husband and becoming a widowed mom to four small children, including a newborn, began Sarah on her grief journey
  • Why a close sisterhood with other women on base and family support from parents, in-laws, and friends helped Sarah transition back to independence
  • How a single question from a caring friend reframed Sarah's views on grief, coping, and moving forward
  • Why traditional grief resources failed Sarah, and why she instead turned to nontraditional options to help her find her path
  • How Sarah dealt with the challenge of being supportive and available to her four kids through their loss while also learning to manage her own grief
  • Why vulnerability does not mean weakness, and why experiencing your feelings rather than trying to avoid them is the key to moving forward through grief
  • How Sarah found her way into a new relationship with her fiancé Brad, and how some of the people around her questioned whether she was ready
  • Why Sarah transitioned from working exclusively with other widows to working with people dealing with other kinds of trauma and grief
